Chiropractic Adjustments - Safe and Natural
When the term ‘adjustment’ is used in a chiropractic sense, the nerves start jangling but there is no need for this to be the case. Not only is the process safe and natural, it is non-invasive and performed by highly-qualified and trained experts. At Carpe Diem Chiropractic, we have professionals with experience who will complete the task with results in mind.
Did you know that chiropractors are actually the only health care professionals trained to offer adjustments? Furthermore, adjustments by any other professional has been proven to be more dangerous and not as effective. Today, we have the basics so you can move forward with confidence if this is something you require!

What is Spinal Adjustment?
Often called spinal manipulation, this is where a chiropractic doctor will use force into various ‘subluxated’ vertebrae within the spine. Also used in the pelvic region, this looks to target the sacroiliac joints with controlled force once again. If a specialized tool isn't necessary, the whole treatment can be done with the hands.
When is Spinal Adjustment Necessary?
If certain vertebrae move out of position or lack proper function, spinal adjustments will be required. Known as vertebral subluxations, vertebrae that lack the right function or motion can cause a number of issues. After first visiting the chiropractor, they will assess your spine and recommend treatment as soon as possible if issues are found. Often, subluxations can cause problems without feeling any pain which is why regular check-ups can be vital for the health of your spine and neck.
How Spinal Adjustment is Performed?
As you may have guessed, the main aim of a spinal adjustment would be to correct vertebral subluxations. When this is achieved, muscle spasm will reduce, tension will be removed along with pain and inflammation, spinal biometrics will be normalized, and nerve irritation will be removed which leads to a healthier body overall. If you have vertebral subluxations, chiropractic treatment is currently the only solution and only chiropractic specialists are trained to detect the problem before then providing the solution.
Non-Spinal Adjustment
Although the spine and pelvis are the two main areas of concern, most other joints in the human body can also be adjusted by a trained professional whether it is the wrists, hands, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, ribs, hips, knees, jaw, or more. With some chiropractic offices, they even provide skull treatments to adjust the joints and sutures within.
Just as we have seen in the spine, the joints in any other area can become misaligned and chiropractic treatment will always look to fix this. When a joint is restored and treated in this way, it increases the overall life of the joint and can prevent bigger problems later in the futrue. For athletes, this is vital because they need their joints to be working in tandem when performing. As well as returning the joints to their normal function, adjustments can also release nutrients into the area because nutrients come from correct motion. When motion is restored, waste will be flushed out and replaced with these nutrients for a healthier joint.
Extra Information
When we were children, there were certain things that our parents said that stuck with us into adulthood. For example, ‘don’t crack your knuckles because you will get arthritis’. However, this statement is completely untrue and research actually suggests the opposite. When you crack your knuckles, the same effect we saw previously takes place in that nutrition enters the joints and leads to a healthier joint in the long run!
