Pinched Nerves and Chiropractic Care

Symptoms of Pinched Nerves

Individuals may be experiencing issues bending forward or backward, trouble sitting for extended amounts of time, difficulty in standing from a seated posture, a small range of movement, as well as sleeping in a few positions. A pinched or irritated nerve may also cause muscle spasms as well as pain. Also, because the nerves control the functions of internal organs and the muscles, pinched nerves can cause other health issues.

The staff was very friendly and professional.  Most importantly,  all of the different therapy and adjustment procedures are second to none! Enjoyed every second I was here. Will schedule many more!

Four Fundamental Factors Behind Pinched Nerves

 1) Misalignments or Subluxations - can cause pain or various kinds of muscle spasms.

2) Disk Degeneration - The spinal disk functions kind of like a shock absorber, and the spacer between the bones or the pillow. When the disk begins to reduce its height or gets leaner, the disk has begun to degenerate (degenerative disk disease). It makes the hole for the nerve to come out smaller when a disk degenerates. The hole the nerves exit your back from is known as the intervertebral foramina. As that hole goes from larger to smaller due to the disk degeneration, it will put pressure on the nerve and enables less room for this nerve to leave.

3) Osteoarthritis – This is the condition where the protective cartilage on the ends of bones wears out over time.

4) Herniated disc - That is when the disk herniates out or protrudes, and pushes up or comes near the nerve, and irritates the nerve which shoots pain down to various areas of the body, as well as the legs, and the arms. Regular moves may bring about the herniated disc rubbing the nerve causing discomfort and pain.

Pinched nerves can result from any mixture of the four causes above, including all four concurrently. In chemical neuritis, the nerves might be irritated because of the inflammatory process..

Treatment of Pinched Nerves

When an individual complains of a pinched nerve, Dr. Meraz does a complete evaluation with orthopedic, neurological, chiropractic, and physical assessment evaluations to assess if the individual actually has a pinched nerve.

Along with the aforementioned diagnostic tests, we have computerized technology that looks at the nerves as they come out of the back to the internal organs, also to the muscles. The infrared scan examines the sympathetic system, the autonomic nervous system, as well as the parasympathetic system that controls your organs. Also, chiropractic currently possesses the latest technology that is the heart rate variability (HRV) that looks at the space in-between the pulses. Space in-between the pulses need to be variable -- which is not unhealthy. With a few individuals, since there is interference within their nervous system, the space between pulses is becoming more static, meaning the ability to adjust to internal stress of the body has dropped.

From there, many times, we are going to take x rays of the spinal column to discover the spinal issues, see whether there is a disk degeneration, along with looking to find out whether there's osteoarthritis that may be affecting or putting pressure on the nerves.

Once that is complete, the most effective treatment strategy will be designed by us especially for that patient to correct or relieve the pain, but to correct the root reason for the issue, and reinforce and stabilize the region that is affected.

If your pinched nerve goes untreated, or uncorrected, the reason behind the issue -- whether it's a misalignment, disk degeneration, osteoarthritis, disk herniation, or a mixture of all four -- will continue to get worse. It is necessary to know that so you treat it correctly and if someone has a degenerative process, treat it. It is possible to stop it. Should you not correct the root reason for the issue, the issue will get increasingly worse and then some will find themselves in the situation where an operation will be needed.

Our aim at Carpe-Diem Chiropractic is to prevent someone from being forced to undergo an operation and correct the issue of pinched nerves.  Make an appointment with our Fort Lauderdale Chiropractor to determine is surgery for your pinched nerves is necessary: (954) 350-0077.  We also have an office in Plantation if that is more convenient: (954) 371-2170.
