Auto Accident Concussion Chiropractor
You might be unfortunate to get involved in a sports or motor vehicle accident. The accident can cause a lot of problems with your body. Your head is one part of your body that is easily affected by an auto accident.
When your head hits the dashboard, steering wheel or any other hard surface during an accident, it can result in a shift in your brain position. Your brain could also bump up and down inside your skull. Whiplash can occur, forcing your neck to move sharply and this can make your brain to collide with the inside of your skull and cause a concussion. When you have a head injury from an accident, it could be mild or severe but to be on the safe side, visit a Fort Lauderdale concussion chiropractor so that an assessment can be done to ascertain the extent of the damage.
A concussion can also occur from other forceful impacts to the head apart from accidents like a fall.

The staff was very friendly and professional. Most importantly, all of the different therapy and adjustment procedures are second to none! Enjoyed every second I was here. Will schedule many more!

Types of concussion
In a concussion, the head injury is closed and that means that there was no penetration of the skull cavity by any sharp object such as a shard of metal or pieces of glass.
There are six different types of concussions.
Cognitive/fatigue
This type affects memory, recall, and tiredness. There will be problems with creating new memories, remembering past memories and even assimilating new information. You will also have an increased irritation towards things, easily tired and grumpy.
Vestibular
The vestibular function is what controls our ability to maintain balance. When a person has an ear infection, they eventually get vertigo because the vestibular senses are no longer in control.
Ocular
An ocular concussion will make you have trouble with your eye functions. You will start finding it difficult to track objects with your eyes. Even worse, your eyes may start to function independently of each other.
Post-traumatic migraine
This kind of concussion will make you have a sensitivity to light and sound. You may start to see halos around lights and the sounds you hear may even become louder. Because of this you can become nauseous and start to have intense headaches.
Cervical
This concussion does not affect the cervix contrary to what the name implies. It is actually referring to the upper neck region that you can find just below the head. The impact causes pain in the region which travels upward to the head and returns back down as if moving around a circle. This causes a rebound effect that causes endless headaches. You will also have trouble finding out the site where the pain begins and stops.
Anxiety/Mood
Concussions can also affect a person's personality. This can cause the individual to worry unnecessary or become easily irritated about things that do not count.
How to handle a concussion
If you have been involved in an accident that resulted in a head injury or a concussion, what can you do?
Before you do anything, try not to become heroic about it by dismissing it as nothing because you can not see the injury.
Don't make an attempt to go to work or drive. In fact, after a concussion avoid driving for about 24 hours. Although only as little as 5% of concussions can lead to internal bleeding, you should treat all concussions as a serious issue.
If you are injured, monitor yourself closely to observe for the following signs; vomiting, seizure, amnesia, shaking, dilation of pupils, loss of consciousness, and speech difficulty.
Get medical help immediately if you notice any of these.
After being discharged from the hospital, make sure you're being taken care of by someone for the first 24 hours. In the past, people with concussion were advised not to sleep but that was due to a lack of equipment that could see inside of a patient's skull. These days things are different and you can sleep if you want besides, it is even encouraged.
Health after a concussion
The majority of the people who have had concussions find out that it clears up unaided before a few days or a week goes by but there are times when the concussions still linger and then graduate into a chronic headache.
This is known as post-concussion syndrome. The symptoms are similar to that of an acute concussion. The patient sees signs like headaches, sensitivity to light and sound, dizziness, nausea, and fatigue, etc. This post-concussion syndrome is damaging and affects a person's daily activities.
Chiropractic Treatment for Head Injuries and Concussions
In an accident, fall or blow to the head, head injuries are not the only thing to be feared because the neck can be involved too. Usually, it is somehow difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a neck injury and that of a mild brain injury.
This is where chiropractic care comes in. The chiropractor’s expertise is necessary for head and neck injuries so that the nerves in the brain stem and spinal cord will not be irritated too much. This will prevent them from causing pain and other neurological symptoms.
